The arrival of m/v Wan He to Port Said on 28 March 2008 marked the inaugural call of the COSCON AMX-service (Asia/Mediterranean) to the Suez Canal Container Terminal.
Cosco Container Lines (Coscon) owns 143 container vessels totaling over 430,000 TEUS – globally no. 7 - as at the end of 2007.Operating over 80 international shipping routes connecting over 140 principal ports in over 50 countries and regions across the world.
Coscon originates from 1993 when it was first established as a Beijing registered company. In it’s current form, it dates back to the January 1997 merger of COSCO Container Division and COSCO Shanghai.
Nowadays, the Shanghai headquartered Coscon is wholly owned by China COSCO Holdings, although this still ultimately makes it part of the China Ocean Shipping Company Group (COSCO), which itself is directly controlled by the Chinese State Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council.
